Marko Jovanović was born in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, in 1961. His professional career began in his youth: at the age of 15 or 16, he conducted the tamburica orchestra of the Sremska Mitrovica cultural and arts association.
After completing secondary school and military service, he successfully auditioned for the large Tamburica Orchestra of RTV Novi Sad. From 1981 to 1989, he was a permanent member, soloist and at times deputy concertmaster.
Marko has lived and worked in Munich since 1989. His career includes performances for Bayerischer Rundfunk and stage music at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz for Franz Lehár’s “The Merry Widow”.
With his trio “Šajka”, he performs traditional urban music, folk music from the regions of former Yugoslavia, Roma-influenced music and other styles. In addition to numerous radio recordings, he released two CDs – in Novi Sad in 2002 and Munich in 2005.
As a guest musician, Marko Jovanović belongs to Ostbeatbend’s extended musical family. His extensive experience and deep roots in the tamburica tradition make a special contribution to joint performances.
